Economy

The economy?

Now more than ever is it clear that many Americans have been cutting down on spending and making desperate attempts to save. The common household prices such as cereal and bread are also drastically increasing in price. Gas prices is something that has been causing to concern to many individuals. Carpooling has been increased in hopes to cut down on the amount of gas needed. Price increases on goods are being seen everywhere. I believe something MUST be done before it is to late. I often question the government’s efforts with our current economy issue. In the news it is often publicized on our efforts in other countries and not so much on what is being done here. I sometimes feel that before we can help others it is important that we help ourselves. It is necessary that we take pride in our nation to help restore it to its greatness.

While I was researching our current economy, I found that President Obama recently signed an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This act is linked to finding over 3 billion jobs for American citizens. It also is said in avoiding another Great Depression. This is just one of many acts that have been signed towards better our economy. Small Business Jobs Act will provide tax breaks and grant credit access to small business throughout the nation. Acts like these I think are the first steps in regaining our greatness. Today, the world is in a state of chaos. I think taking baby steps like these will generate a great outcome.

  1. I think as you can see form the comments folks find it easier to talk about abortion than they do the economy, because the economy while sticky is also clouded in mystery. Many people consider it a science, but it is important to remember that it is a social science and develops out of human behaviour which while it can be measured, is often transformed by the measurement tools in the process. In short, it is not an exact science and requires a good bit of interpretation and therefore is thoroughly rhetorical. I'm curious if you saw the Lesley Stahl reprot on 60 Minutes last night--she towed the corporate party line about taxes on US corporatins being too high without even exploring the percentage of GDP corp taxes make up--only 2.2 per cent in the US while it's well over 3.5 per cent in the Major European countries. The main claim by corps she left unquestioned was that US corps are taxed at ahigher rate "forcing" them to go to tax havens overseas to make more profit. Of course, they don't mention how all of the breaks they get in incentives and subsidies from the Federal Government and the states reduces their tax burden. That is just not good journalism. You should really look into that construction of the tax liability by corporations and how false it is.
