9th and 14th amendment

I looked further into the constitution to try to get a better understanding on the legal issues that play a role with an abortion. The 9th Amendment of the Constitution has factored court cases because it protects the rights of people. It was original apart of the Bill of Rights and was ratified in 1791. The ratification was in order to make sure the rights enumerated into the constitution. This allowed for the rights of people would not be denied or jeopardized. Many people feel that this amendment is more of an interpretation rather than a clear statement and often have a difficult time deciphering a person’s right. Since the ninth amendment was originally apart of the bill of rights it speaks to the limitations on the federal government rather than powers of state governments. Times have drastically changed since the Bill of rights and state governments hold equally as much power as federal governments. 


Roe vs. Wade is a historic court case that overturned a Texas interpretation of the abortion law, making abortion legal in the United State. The decision held that a woman with her doctor could choose abortion in earlier months of a pregnancy with out restriction and with restrictions in later months due to privacy. The Roe vs. Wade ruling was based primarily on the ninth amendment. It states, “"the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."


Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965 also is a landmark case in American history. The Supreme Court ruled that a state’s ban on the use of contraceptives violated the right to material privacy. The ninth amendment represented their rights and helped the decision of the case.


The 14th amendment along with the ninth amendment has altered many rulings of abortion cases. The 14th amendment grants citizenship to all people born or naturalized in the U.S. It also prevents the state from denying any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. This amendment allows everyone to have equal protection of basic rights without government limitations. In Roe vs. Wade it was determined that a fetus in not a person. Persons else where in the constitution refer to people after birth. Therefore, there has been no denying of a person’s right. This was backed by the 14th amendment.

Thank you all again for your feedback everything seems to be extreme helpful. I have been doing a lot of research to help better identify the issues of abortion.  All of us know how controversial abortion is in our society today. My wording needs to be clear and neutral. Abortion update



Thank you everyone for your feedback and help advice on my topic, Abortion. I think it is very important that I chose my words wisely and carefully. I do not want to offend anyone in this post. I want to portray both sides as positive as possible and show the basis for both. I am going to be a neutral voice for this topic. Since this topic is extremely controversial and political, I am hesitant on what information I should include. So far I have research some court cases that deal with the issue of abortion. 

One of the most commonly known abortion cases is Roe v. Wade, which occurred in 1973. Roe was a single woman who brought a class action suit against the state of Texas for their criminal abortion laws. Currently Texas would only allow for an abortion to take place if a woman’s life was in risk. The court ruled 7 to 2 decision. It was ruled in favor of Roe due to the ninth and fourteenth amendment. Under the 14th amendment, personal liberty and previous decisions protecting privacy in family matters included a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy. 



While doing additional research, I found many other court cases dealing with the topic of abortion. For example Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey. This case discusses the necessary steps that should be taken before an abortion. It provides a legal basis for going about an abortion.

Economy

The economy?

Now more than ever is it clear that many Americans have been cutting down on spending and making desperate attempts to save. The common household prices such as cereal and bread are also drastically increasing in price. Gas prices is something that has been causing to concern to many individuals. Carpooling has been increased in hopes to cut down on the amount of gas needed. Price increases on goods are being seen everywhere. I believe something MUST be done before it is to late. I often question the government’s efforts with our current economy issue. In the news it is often publicized on our efforts in other countries and not so much on what is being done here. I sometimes feel that before we can help others it is important that we help ourselves. It is necessary that we take pride in our nation to help restore it to its greatness. 


While I was researching our current economy, I found that President Obama recently signed an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This act is linked to finding over 3 billion jobs for American citizens. It also is said in avoiding another Great Depression. This is just one of many acts that have been signed towards better our economy. Small Business Jobs Act will provide tax breaks and grant credit access to small business throughout the nation. Acts like these I think are the first steps in regaining our greatness. Today, the world is in a state of chaos. I think taking baby steps like these will generate a great outcome.

Abortion

I think the decision of abortion should be solely given to individual who is pregnant. I do not think their should be a law that hinders people to having an abortion. Certain situations and lack of attention make abortions necessary. I am not an advocate for killing innocent people and certainly not condoning the killing of babies. However, I do not believe that government has any right to take that option away from the woman who may need to get one. For this blog assignment, I started to look further into way people opted for an abortion. I found that the reasons varied from personal to even financial. Some of the reasons included; financial instability, teen pregnancies, school, health risk, and rap victims. After hearing some of these factors, I became more supportive of abortion. Say my sister who is 38 were to get pregnant and the doctors said she was not healthy enough to have this child. That in some time during her pregnancy she may die. To me her life is certainly more important that an unborn baby who I have never met. I am not saying she would have decided to terminate the pregnancy but should definitely have that alternative option.

Introduction

Hi my name is Kara Garrone and I will be graduating this May from the University of Rhode Island with a Public Relations major and a Communications minor. Last Spring I studied abroad in Thessolonikki, Greece. I absolutely loved it. I feel in love with the people, the culture, and the scenery. Since I am half Greek and half Italian it was no wonder why I felt an instant connection to the Mediterranean lifestyle. After Graduation, I will hopefully be attending law school. I am still waiting to hear back from the schools I applied to. I only applied to schools in New York because that is where I am from and where all my family lives. My family plays a large role in my life and makeup. My parents had me later in their life, making me a surprise to the rest of my family. My brother was 19 and my sister was 17 when I was born. Twenty one years later I am an aunt to my brother's and sister's children. My sister has 3: Luke, Riley, and Arianna. My brother has one son, Nicholas. I spoil them like my brother and sister did to me when I was growing up! I hope you all enjoy hearing more about me and reading my blog posts.
