Thank you everyone for your feedback and help advice on my topic, Abortion. I think it is very important that I chose my words wisely and carefully. I do not want to offend anyone in this post. I want to portray both sides as positive as possible and show the basis for both. I am going to be a neutral voice for this topic. Since this topic is extremely controversial and political, I am hesitant on what information I should include. So far I have research some court cases that deal with the issue of abortion.
One of the most commonly known abortion cases is Roe v. Wade, which occurred in 1973. Roe was a single woman who brought a class action suit against the state of Texas for their criminal abortion laws. Currently Texas would only allow for an abortion to take place if a woman’s life was in risk. The court ruled 7 to 2 decision. It was ruled in favor of Roe due to the ninth and fourteenth amendment. Under the 14th amendment, personal liberty and previous decisions protecting privacy in family matters included a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy.
While doing additional research, I found many other court cases dealing with the topic of abortion. For example Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey. This case discusses the necessary steps that should be taken before an abortion. It provides a legal basis for going about an abortion.
This website I found to be very helpful
-I will continue to research the court cases and break down the legalities of the cases and rulings.
I think a good topic to also look into is different abortion methods
I also will be indicating statistical information that will be useful to both pro choice and pro life sides
Hey, this is Aaron Womack from URI.
ReplyDeleteSo where do you stand on the issue? I think it's funny how religions state that we are killing babies yet they promote celibacy which is also in a way killing off potential lives. I am against it in my heart but for it in my head, basically, as I really don't want kids. Ultimately, I think people should be able to choose for themselves, but I don't think it should be a necessity that someone is for it and that people are labeled unintelligent republicans for religious bigots for being against it. I am none of those things but I am still against it—against it in my own life, not in terms of it being legal or not. I think people need to be responsible too, and taught how emotionally traumatic an abortion is—especially young girls.
It's important you also look at the role of the 9th ammendment--it is important in combination with the 14th ammendment. The question you might ask here is waht happens if Roe V. Wade is overturned--waht happens to our right to privacy, our right to count our body as our own property? You also might consider some specific non-religious views on abortion opposition--it isn't only a religious position for some. There are so many side issues because it has such a powerful hold on our society--you can't do justice to them all, so you need to construct a context for your analysis/argument that really fine tunes waht you want to say about the issue.
